Check out my Mom at the top of the Queen's Stupa at Doi Inthanon!

My Mom and I came back to Mae Sai together and we're both staying at my house now. I was so impressed with her when she told me, after an hour of staying at my house that she had a "to-do" list for while she was in Mae Sai. I thought she'd have an itinerary with trips to the Golden Triangle, Myanmar or Doi Tung. But no. She had a shopping list, not for souvenirs, but for house appliances and cleaning products. I am now the lone owner of a vacuum cleaner in Mae Sai. The word "vacuum" doesn't even appear in my Thai-English dictionary. Having mom come visit my living space is great because she notices all these things I NEVER would have noticed, even if I lived here for 5 years. The curtains on my window, for example: I'm impressed with myself that I even live in a house that comes with curtains. My mom took them down and sent them to be washed.
Then there were the really practical things that I really should have taken care of before my mom got here, like my bed with a dip at the foot because the frame sortof collapsed. It's much more comfortable now that she made me talk to my landlord about it.
The rest of this week I am going to try to make her stay a little bit more lax and try to make things more enjoyable for HER...no more shopping for the house or cleaning.

DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! Mom likes to clean other people's homes and cook them lots of food. Beware - if you have kids she will make you take naps while she feeds them chocolate and gives them hugs.
I miss you both

Jamie -- How wonderful to have your mom visiting you!!! Nothing like a Mom to bring in a warm and homey atmosphere. Have a wonderful time exploring beautiful Thailand together. Phil and I are sending you and Mom lots of hugs.
PS. Jean, you look radiant!!!

I didn't mean to be anonymous, but I guess you figured out who it is. Let's see if this works -- new to blogging!!!
Ahh, it's Good to Be Queen! And good to see the Queen visiting the Stupa! Now don't let her go all goofy & hire you a cleaning service to boot!
She WILL hire a cleaning service. She WILL, I KNOW! Read my autobiography" It Happened To ME!
IS she cooking for you? More Pictures!
Cleaning service would be the least of it -- if she sends Tina & Almerinda over followed by Milton you AND the Thais are really in trouble!! Watch out -- this is a slippery slope! Kathleen is right! Be careful!
Jamie, It so wonderful to see the pic of you and your Mom! It is amazing that she just had surgery!Wow! I hope you have a wonderful visit and please give my love to your Mom, she is awesome! It must feel pretty good to see her, and to get that "nobody cares about you quite like Mom" treatment. Lots of love.
Hey, that's great that your mom is visiting. Sometimes it is just nice to have a piece of home in a distant place. Enjoy the time you guys have together. And keep up the blogging - it's great!
This is my 2d try. Hope you get this: The photos of Jean with the vanda orchids = super! Jamie with the only vac in town is quite a distinction. The blog is just terrific - this writing business must run in the family! Hope Jean got the big Bangkok info e-mail I sent about a week before she left. If not, can repeat. Meantime, keep up the adventures! xxoo, Flash
Rolling on the floor laughing about the cleaning story and the resulting flurry of hysterical comments. Are there before and after pics of your house Jamie?
I can't tell you how proud I am to have an aunt with a bionic knee, and a cousin with the only vaccuum in town.
Hugs to you both!
Chris
